Our success formula: vertical integration, technical expertise and customer focus

Okoluft has followed a clear recipe for success. We design and manufacture key components – from AC external rotor motors to energy‑saving EC drives – entirely in‑house.

True customer focus means being close to our partners. We don’t just sell fans, we provide tailored ventilation systems that reduce energy costs, simplify maintenance, and improve indoor air quality.

The Okoluft Group

Since its foundation in 1993, okoluft has evolved from a regional fan manufacturer into a globally partner for energy‑efficient ventilation technology. Rooted in German engineering excellence, okoluft has continuously expanded its product portfolio and international footprint while staying committed to innovation, vertical integration, and sustainability.

Four compelling reasons to partner with Okoluft

Timeline Overview

Discover the significant milestones that have shaped the Okoluft journey.

1993 – Foundation of okoluft in Baden‑Württemberg

On 15 May 1993, okoluft was founded by a team of seasoned ventilation engineers in a small workshop near Stuttgart. From the very beginning, okoluft focused on the development and production of high‑quality external rotor motors and fans for building services engineering, setting the stage for decades of innovation in air movement technology.

1996 – Launch of the first in‑house AC external rotor motor series

Three years after its foundation, okoluft successfully launched its first complete series of AC external rotor motors manufactured entirely in‑house. This milestone not only reduced the company‘s dependence on external suppliers but also enabled okoluft to enter the OEM market as a reliable partner for customised motor and fan solutions.

2000 – First international subsidiaries in France and the Netherlands

By 2000, okoluft took its first decisive steps onto the international stage, establishing sales and service offices in Lyon, France, and Utrecht, the Netherlands. These subsidiaries brought the brand closer to key European customers and marked the beginning of a systematic internationalisation strategy.

2002 – Acquisition of a French fan manufacturer and entry into small‑size fans

The acquisition of a specialised French fan manufacturer allowed okoluft to significantly broaden its product portfolio. Through this integration, the company expanded its range of motors and fans into smaller frame sizes, further strengthening its position as a versatile OEM manufacturer in the European market.

2004 – New production facility for air handling units in Saxony

With the opening of a dedicated production plant for air handling units in Glaubitz, Saxony, okoluft expanded its portfolio beyond individual fans. The new facility enabled the company to offer complete, ready‑to‑connect ventilation units for building automation, industrial process air, and controlled residential ventilation.

2008 – Beginning of in‑house EC motor development

In response to tightening European energy efficiency regulations, okoluft initiated the in‑house development of electronically commutated (EC) motors. This strategic move positioned the company at the forefront of energy‑saving fan technology, offering products that combine high efficiency, low power consumption, and integrated control electronics.

2010 – Certification of air performance test benches by TÜV‑SÜD

To guarantee the accuracy and reliability of its performance data, okoluft had its air performance test benches certified by TÜV‑SÜD. This official third‑party validation provided customers and certification bodies with independently confirmed aerodynamic performance measurements, reinforcing the company’s commitment to transparency and quality.

2013 – Full compliance with EU Ecodesign Directive (ErP)

By the January 2013 deadline of EU Regulation 327/2011, okoluft successfully upgraded its entire fan portfolio to meet the new minimum efficiency requirements for motors with an input power between 125 W and 500 kW. The company‘s early investments in EC motor technology paid off, enabling a smooth transition well ahead of the second tier of tightened limits that followed in 2015.

2016 – Launch of smart ventilation solutions with integrated IoT functionality

Recognising the growing demand for digital connectivity in building automation, okoluft introduced its first generation of smart fans equipped with integrated IoT sensors. These intelligent ventilation units continuously monitor parameters such as rotational speed, vibration, air volume, and pressure, transmitting real‑time data to advanced building management systems for predictive maintenance and energy optimisation.

2020 – Development of high‑performance fans for pandemic‑resilient buildings

In response to the global COVID‑19 pandemic and the heightened awareness of indoor air quality, okoluft accelerated the development of high‑performance fan solutions for healthcare facilities, schools, and public buildings. The company‘s advanced air handling units with enhanced filtration and controlled airflow became a key component in creating safer indoor environments worldwide.

2024 – okoluft Next Level: Transition to a family foundation and global production network

Securing the company’s long‑term future, the okoluft Group was transferred into a family foundation, safeguarding its independence and continuity as a family‑owned enterprise. Today, with production sites and subsidiaries across Europe, Asia, and North America, okoluft continues to grow as a global partner for energy‑efficient and sustainable ventilation technology – true to its founding principle: German engineering, made for the world.
